Technology Enhance CHildren Cognitive Assessment and Training

Executive Functions (EF) are a family of top down mental processes needed to concentrate or pay attention and when it not possible to depend on automatic actions. These functions affect directly to well-being and quality of life of people, and they are developed in early age.

TECHCAT Project joins together the efforts a multidisciplinary group of researches to deal with the challenge of finding technological solutions to help to observe, diagnosis and improve the processes associated with the cognitive enrichment of EF in small children, integrating the last advances in Technologies of Information, Neuropsychology and Education.

TECHCAT will contribute to the international scientific advance about the cognitive enrichment of the executive systems towards the executive functions, in early ages, contributing with a set of technological resources, techniques and support systems of great interest for the scientific community and with a direct impact in the society.

IMPLEMENT

Build a open-access web platform offering tools for cognitive enrichment (this will be single games for children) with tasks patterns. Those tasks will make to the child to work with mental process of Executive Functions.

MODEL

Define and implement user model, efficient and effective, for the evaluation and monitoring of children, build up with Artificial Intelligence(AI) techniques incorporating Bayesian a models of the Item Response Theory (IRT) and following an evidence-based design (ECD)

DESIGN

Develop a methodology to connect the EF with quantifiable events, indicators. From there, we will develop quantitative models to assess the cognitive enrichment and then monitor the cognitive and emotional development of children.

EVALUATE

Carry out an experimental fieldwork, of longitudinal character study, with children and teacher of schools, to study and demonstrate the conditions for the optimums cognitive and emotional development of children. .

ANALIZE

Analyze the use of the system, the results of the children, the value of indicators to improve all the learning process

EXPLORE

Explore how the use of technology affects the development of EF in children and investigate specifically about the detection and enrichment of cognitive auto-regulation involved in the development and leaning process of children.

SIETTE

SIETTE is is a web based system that allows item banking and test delivery. It is based on the Classical Test Theory (CTT), the Item Response Theory (IRT), and Computer-adaptive testing (CAT). Siette can be used as a collaborative learning tool. It can also be used as an assessment tool integrated into an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS), or linked to a Learning Management System (LMS) like Moodle as an external tool.
